Are Tourists Being Ripped Off in Turkish Resorts?
Introduction
Holiday makers in Turkish resorts this year have been shocked by some of the prices that some restaurants are charging. With inflation in Turkey at around a hundred percent and the exchange rate also going up, tourists are questioning whether they are being ripped off.
Exploring Restaurant Prices
After exploring the resort in Çalış Beach, it was found that most prices are similar to last year, with only a few items, such as steak, experiencing an increase. Despite this, overall prices were still reasonable, and cheaper options could be found in the back streets.
Factors Affecting Prices
The increase in rental prices for buildings and the high cost of supplies, such as meat, were noted as reasons for the rise in restaurant prices. Popular areas like Marmaris and Olu Deniz may have experienced higher price increases compared to other locations like Çalış.
Comparing Prices
Prices for popular food and drinks such as Turkish pides, burgers, and alcoholic beverages were compared between restaurants and supermarkets. It was found that prices varied, with some being more expensive in restaurants compared to supermarkets.
Considerations for Tourists
Tourists are reminded to check menu prices before sitting down to avoid being shocked by the bill. It was also highlighted that Turkish workers on minimum wage earn significantly less, prompting tourists to consider supporting them by purchasing from supermarkets or having a picnic instead.
Conclusion
While prices in prime tourist areas may be higher, reasonable options can be found just a few streets away. It is advised for tourists to be mindful of prices and to explore different options to make the most of their experience.

Informative video. Do you currently reside in Fethiye?
You should try living in the UK. My utility bills are tripling in price. A pint is £6.50. Going out for a below average meal now costs over £60. £186 a month for council tax. Forget about the cost of commuting and travelling, it's a joke.
enjoy your turkeyeverything is suitable and beautiful for youwell, let the question come ; what do you think about the situation in Turkey?i would like to see this through your eyes in a video…
I hear the prices this year significantly higher, is it true guys? Really worried as I have two holidays booked to Turkey and the prices I am seeing online in restaurants are similar to UK prices, even higher sometimes.
Ask before order..
In comparison to U.K., it is dirt cheap …
They treat foreigners better than they treat the Turks …. Imagine that !
Ruthless Capitalism!
For people who work and live in Türkiye , everything is unaffordable !
this video did not age well.
The prices in oludeniz, Hisaronu and Marmaris are definitely not cheaper than the uk.
Similar to London prices yes, rest of the country NO
Very good video. Comparing prices in USA and in Turkey , prices in USA are much higher in restaurants and in hotels. I’d love to visit Turkey and enjoy Turkish food. I can save a lot of money there than in other countries of Europe ❤
In Side and Antalya, you are pressured into paying in Euros, which is a bit of a scam, an Efes beer costs on average between 4 to 5 euros nearly 90 to 110 lira, at the current exchange rate. This is more than I would expect to pay in a pub back home. I'm a regular tourist to Turkey but if prices continue to escalate at this rate and tourist are taken advantage of like at present then unfortunately I will be looking for a different holiday destination in future. Great videos BTW.
I’ve just come back from Dalyan, total greed tourist trap greed greed greed , not the same quality chefs food , cheap restaurants basic yuk food £15 each better quality £30 each and upwards , set of gel nails for wife £20 and yes everyone there wants £££ so they don’t quote lira it’s all pound and yes they want the same price as a surrey restaurant and mail bar very few bargains just trickery on every corner , I hope the tourists stay away for a while to make them realise greed is not the answer , standard of cooking drastically dropped , avoid Turkey and apparently Antalya and and all the resorts are even more expensive, so if your thinking 25 lira to the pound 100 lira = 4£ the average steak 500 lira £20 plus drink etc almost at European prices when there economy is on the floor , 5 years ago 4 people lavish meal £40 in total , those days are gone , prices sky high !
Tourists are sure getting ripped off. You get a service at European standards.
I hate the British outlook on Turkish life.
Tourist destinations in Turkey Always very expensive and geting eeven more expensive lately , because rent those Places 10 times more expensive then Avarage Turkish Cities Away from Costal Line .
Prices seem out of my reach now unfortunately
The main issue in the restaurants is hidden prices that we also being affected so much as Turkish. Do not pay for anything they served to the table without your request such as bottle water. Otherwise yes, surprisingy the prices are the same with the last year eventhough increased inflation rate. I have also just checked it last week during 1 w stay in Antalya. My Lesson to Learn is stay away from sea front places if you fancy reasonable price, better quality food and nice family running places. Special Thanks to Mick and Trudie for their contribution to The Turkey.

If I may…….(J) in Spanish is not pronounced. Thus, Mojito is pronounced Mohito.
My first time travelling abroad on Saturday and I'm going to oludeniz. I'm a bit overwhelmed by everything. Is it best to take british pounds or Turkish currency?
If you want to eat out, go away from the front, and look where its full of locals. ❤
On my way to Fethiye as the starting point for a two week sailing trip and your information about the cost of food and eating out is very helpful and informative. Thank you. Much appreciated. Can one find similar budget friendly food options in places like Gocek, Marmaris, Datca and Bodrum?
Robbers….go to local supermarkets, dirt cheap.
turkey has become expensive and taking tourists away to other parts of the world
Pedicure was a shock,
I’m here in Antalya Oct 2023 and the prices have gone up by quite a bit. That 50TL has gone up to 150 – 200. I’m quite surprised how expensive it is. Probably more than Greece and Spain
What amazed me was a wee bag of sweets out a local, non-tourist shop was if anything more expensive per gram than what I would pay in Lidl or Aldi. I don't know how the locals do it. Is there some sort of underground economy going on?
