Turkey‘s First Domestic Car Brand Unveils Massive Manufacturing Plant

Turkey‘s automobile joint venture group has unveiled a massive manufacturing plant, coinciding with the 99th anniversary of the establishment of the Turkish Republic. This marks the beginning of a new era for Turkey‘s automobile sector.

The Manufacturing Plant

The plant, built on 1.2 million square meters in Bursa’s Gemnik District, is set to create over 10,000 jobs. The unveiling of the manufacturing plant is expected to pave the way for the release of Turkey‘s first domestic car brand, with the first car hitting the country’s roads in March 2023. Five different models will be produced, including SUVs, sedans, hatchbacks, BSUVs, and BMPVs.

The First Electric Sport Utility Vehicle in Europe

The first model to be released will be an electric sport utility vehicle, designed by Italy’s Pininfarina design company. This will be the first electric SUV produced in Europe by a non-traditional manufacturer. The car is expected to reach an 80% charge in under 30 minutes and have a range of 300 to 500 kilometers.

A Long-Awaited Vision

The quest to produce Turkey‘s first domestic automobile began in the early 1960s with prototypes of a car called “The Devrim”. However, it was not until December 2019 that President Erdogan unveiled fully electric and C-segment models of the Togg automobile. President Erdogan has long advocated for the development of a domestic automobile, as part of his vision to make Turkey an economic powerhouse.

Turkey‘s Vision for the Future

With the unveiling of the manufacturing plant, Turkey is now one step closer to achieving its goal of producing 1 million vehicles in five different segments by 2030.

In conclusion, the unveiling of the massive manufacturing plant is a significant milestone for Turkey‘s automobile industry. It marks the beginning of a new era for the country’s first domestic car brand, and signals Turkey‘s ambition to become a major player in the automotive market.
