Craft an SEO friendly 1000-word article based on this youtube script – Fantastic wildlife, the best honey, and the best oranges? Welcome to Köyceğiz. Köyceğiz is a small town filled with lovely Lakeside restaurants and cafes. It’s not allowed tourist hotspots, more of a gentle escape. In recent years, it’s become a sought after place to live. And lots of the residents here are not locals. The town is blessed with crystal clear mountain water and it’s bottled in the mountains and sold as (indistinct) The Lake is a freshwater Lake, and it’s fed by two mountain rivers. The long promenade here with its soft track attracts walkers and runners throughout the day. And it’s popular with hikers, cyclists and boating enthusiasts. And sometimes it gets a bit busy. There’s a few pensions, hotels and guest houses here and most of them are family run and reasonably priced. So we’re here at the Kaunos Hotel, which is an established hotel. It’s been here for a while and it’s got very nice pretty gardens that are well kept. It could benefit from an upgrade. But for 25 pounds a night including your breakfast, and in the middle of the summer. There’s a swimming pool as well. What do you think, Lovely? The town is in the center of lush green countryside. In this area, there’s literally thousands of acres of orange groves. And at this time of year which is right in the middle of April now, you get all the blossom on the tree. So this is an amazing area for growing oranges, nectarines, lemons. And the smell. It’s the middle of April now,
With the blossom all on its just incredible. This area is well-known for its citrus fruits. And the oranges here are some of the best in Turkey, and probably the world. We came across a lorry driver who was waiting at the side of the road for deliveries from different farms around the area.
And he was taking all the oranges to market in Izmir. He told me his lorry holds 26 ton of oranges. – [Trudy] Can I steal one? – [Man] It’s sweet then? Look at this little place. – It’s so pretty. – She’s not just got oranges, she’s got other things as well, love. – [Trudy] She’s got oranges, all different sorts of oils and… – [Man] I bet the sell honey as well. Yeah, they sell honey. It’s a big honey area. They’ve even got homemade soap, love. They’ve got homemade soap here. Look at that. Homemade soap. (sniffing) Olive oil soap. Just make it in a tray and then they cut it with a knife. – [Trudy] What, so lovely, is this is just
On the side of the road and they’ve just, they’ve made it. They’ve made it so pretty with all the little flowers and pots and… We just had to stop for an orange juice. It’s delicious. It’s sweet. – It’s sweet, isn’t it? – And healthy. – Actually, although this little place is by the roadside. When there’s no traffic going past you can hear all the birds singing. – And the bees. – And the bees, and she’s got the radio on. – [Man] Köyceğiz and Dalyan became an area of special environmental protection in 1988. Due to the efforts of captain June, that’s June Haimhoff, David Bellamy, and quite a few other people. And even Prince Phillip was involved because he was the head of the world wildlife fund at the time.
Because they started building on the Dalyan Beach, the Iztuzu Beach. So that was all stopped and it became a protected area. And it’s been protected for so many years now. And the wildlife here is in abundance. So it’s now been called a wildlife sanctuary for a huge array of reptiles and birds. And especially the loggerhead turtles that breed on Iztuzu Beach. And the Lake and rivers are teaming with fish. That’s what you call fishing. Wow. He’s probably wondering how come I can’t catch that many. And because of the flora, fauna, and pine forest, they also produce a lot of honey. In the region, it’s well-known for its honey. And again, as with the oranges, it’s some of the best you’ll ever taste. There are a lot of shops selling Köyceğiz honey. There’s even shops in the center of the town. So we thought we’d better go in and try some. In this shop, seems like every honey you could buy. – So there’s 18 types of honey and I’m gonna… – [Man] You’re not trying all of them, are you? (chuckling) – [Trudy] I might. This one is acorn honey. Oh, that’s different. That’s definitely different. – So look at this, they’re selling these great big tins which are nearly five liters, for 275 lira.
That’s about 25 quid. And they sell the natural honeycomb stuff as well. What they call (speaking in Turkish) in Turkish. And it’s a popular cycling area with marked out routes around the Lake and up into the mountains. And there’s places where you can hire a bike like this one for four or five pounds for a whole day. But just a bit later, we found this bike shop. Wow, that’s quite cheap, cause that’s only 20 lira. Two for a day. Let’s say, if you want a reasonable bike and reasonably cheap, come and see Barry. He’s the guy. The town center still has a very Turkish feel to it. And it’s a working rural town that hasn’t been overwhelmed by tourism. So it’s market day today, which is Monday, but that might change after COVID. Markets in several different streets. There’s no particular place of the market. Seems to be everywhere. And there’s a few nice little shops as Trudy soon found out. Another shop? You always find interesting and unusual things in places like this. Especially the people. Like this lady selling remedies and oils from her garden. – So where did you get them from? – Chef Viay. – [Man] From Chef Viay? Where’s she, over there? – She’s behind you. – [Man] She’s behind you!
Oh, Chef Viay. She’s got all sorts of things there. Oh yeah. Lavender oil. It’s some lovely black mulberries. That’s what Trudy just bought. She’s got lots of things here. But it’s in a jam jar. – [Trudy] But it’s just like the juice of… – Blackheads. – [Man] Blackheads. – Yes. – [Man] It’s a type of fruit called karabas, I don’t know what that is. – [Trudy] But it’s in olive oil. – [Man] Yeah. It’s in olive oil. – [Trudy] But its supposed to be good for your stomach. – [Man] Yeah. (speaking in Turkish) It’s not the of place I was expecting
To see the Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Which one’s grumpy? Oh here he is. Grumpy. (upbeat music) – Do you think that roof leaks? When it’s raining? – [Man] I think it might. Intrigued about the building, we went over to talk to the owner. We found out that Ali had been arc welding here for 60 years and his dad before that, and he was 70 years old himself. And he was still making and repairing classic Turkish tools. This is quite an interesting shop because she makes these lovely bags out of old jeans,
And then her husband fixes electric bikes, which is great. At the moment, we’re in a lockdown situation here in Turkey. So most of the restaurants and bars are all closed up. – They are serving fabulous coffee. Yeah but it’s super coffee. And it’s the only place really, we can find that serving takeaway coffee. – Of course, it’s nice in the summer to go out on a boat trip and Dalyan isn’t far away. Or even cover yourself in mud at Sultaniye Hot Springs. Dalyan and Dalyan estuary is a really interesting place to visit with the rock tombs and Iztuzu Beach. And there’s a link to our Dalyan film at the end of the video. And if you like archeology,
Spend off a day at the ruins of Kaunas. It’s a really interesting site. So these trees, which are in the center of Köyceğiz, are what we would call the Oriental sweet gum tree. The Turks often call them the frankincense tree but they’re not actually. Frankincense tree is a completely different tree.
But these trees, they grow in a forest round here and they only grow in this part of Turkey and only one other place in the world. And that’s somewhere in the Americas. When they’re caught, there’s resin that comes off them. It’s like a clear Amber, but it’s chewy and quite sweet.
But it’s been used in medicine for thousands of years. Even the Romans used to use it. If you’re a very keen cyclist or you’ve got a car, head up into the Hills at the back of Köyceğiz, and enjoy the pretty villages and Riverside restaurants. Only 15 minutes out of Köyceğiz, we stopped off at this little restaurant that we’d seen on the internet, aren’t we? We have crystal clear water and they’ve served us trout from the oven with salad and fresh bread. Can’t beat it, can you? – No. – For a hundred Lira. – Cheers.
– Cheers to this nice fresh water from the river. So that’s it from Köyceğiz. – Don’t forget to like, – subscribe, – and hit the notification bell so you don’t miss where we go next. – [Both] Thanks for watching. .
