The 400-Year Diplomatic Relationship Between the Netherlands and Turkey
For centuries, the Netherlands and Turkey have maintained a strong diplomatic relationship. This year marks the 400th anniversary of their diplomatic ties, and to commemorate this milestone, Turkish President Gül visited the Netherlands. Accompanied by Prince Willem-Alexander, Princess Máxima, and Minister Verhagen, President Gül attended the Holland Turkey Business Forum in Amsterdam.
Promoting Business Opportunities
Minister Verhagen expressed his satisfaction with President Gül’s state visit, emphasizing the opportunities it presents for Dutch and Turkish companies to engage in more business ventures. The Netherlands has a long history of trade with Turkey, and there are even greater opportunities for collaboration in the future. According to an ING study, Dutch companies have the potential to generate billions in revenue through exports to Turkey in the coming years.
Missed Opportunities
Despite the longstanding trade relationship between the two countries, the percentage of Dutch exports to Turkey has stabilized, indicating a missed opportunity for greater economic collaboration. Rob Rühl highlighted the potential loss of revenue, estimating that Dutch exports to Turkey could have generated an additional 4.1 billion in revenue from 2010 to 2016.
Promoting Trade Mission to Turkey
Minister Verhagen announced plans to lead a trade mission to Turkey in May, accompanied by several Dutch companies. The focus of the visit will be on promoting trade in creative industries and top sectors such as water. Companies specializing in these areas, including Designlink, are optimistic about the mission’s potential to connect with key clients and pave the way for future growth.
Economic Growth in Turkey
It is evident that Turkey is currently one of the fastest-growing economies in the world, presenting numerous opportunities for international trade and investment. The upcoming trade mission aims to capitalize on Turkey’s economic growth and strengthen the business relationship between the Netherlands and Turkey.
Overall, the 400-year diplomatic relationship between the Netherlands and Turkey continues to foster opportunities for economic collaboration and mutual growth. With a focus on trade missions and strategic partnerships, the two countries are poised to further enhance their longstanding ties for the benefit of both nations.
