2024 Fashion Trends and Predictions

Another year has come and gone, and as is tradition, we’ll be discussing an assortment of trends that we predict will be all the rage in the fashion space in 2024. Fashion Forecasting

Fashion forecasting involves analyzing consumer shopping habits, developing social media trends, and sociopolitical factors. Many of the trends we’ll discuss have been popular at other points in time, and 2024 will see fashion taking notes from a variety of eras. The goal of this series is to help consumers become more informed by highlighting the history of a trend and emphasizing fashion’s repetitive nature.

Trend Predictions for 2024

Here are some trends we predict will gain traction in 2024:

Gingham

Gingham made a comeback in the mid-2010s and is expected to be more experimental with different colors and sizes in 2024. Combined with the popularity of hairbows and retro silhouettes, it might have us looking like characters from the 1950s and 60s.

Renaissance Motifs

The Renaissance period will influence fashion with brocade fabrics, deep jewel tones, and celestial designs. Ethereal makeup will also become popular to give a more youthful appearance.

Puffy Shirts

The distinctive flared shape of the puffy shirt, popular in the 2010s, will return in 2024 with an emphasis on structure and tailoring, bringing it closer to its historical inspirations.

Punk Pirate Aesthetics

The fashion space may see a rise in the punk pirate aesthetic, combining imagery from the Golden Age of piracy with the new Romantic Movement of the 1970s.

Victorian Boots

The Victorian boot, popular in the mid-19th century, is expected to make a comeback in 2024, influenced by boho and punk styles.

Skulls and Skeletons

There’s a chance that we’ll be seeing a lot more bones on our clothing in 2024. The motif of skulls and skeletons will continue to be popular, following the resurgence of the Alexander McQueen skull scarf.

Accessorizing with Beads, Buttons, and Brooches

Beads, buttons, and brooches will offer a unique, customizable accessory option for fashion aficionados. This trend is sustainable and encourages a DIY mentality.

Spikes, Studs, and Safety Pins

Spikes, studs, and safety pins will become one of the hottest accessories in 2024, adorning shoes, jackets, bracelets, and purses.

Rips and Tears

Distressed garments will be a prominent trend in 2024, embracing a more lived-in look reflecting DIY and punk influences.

Disco Pants

The tight, heavy nylon elastane blend of disco pants, popular in the 1970s, will make a comeback in 2024, influenced by the 1980s fashion trends.

Cat Print

Animal prints, often associated with a tacky or trashy connotation, will be embraced in 2024 for a bold and daring look.

Flannels

Flannels, popular in the ‘90s and early 2010s, will see a resurgence in 2024 with an emphasis on their grungy roots, adding a touch of casualness to any outfit.
