2021 World Economic Forum: What happened at the digital summit? | DW News

A hundred and fifty million people in developing countries are likely to fall back into extreme poverty in 2021 as the coronavirus pandemic continues to devastate economies, delegates at the virtual World Economic Forum (WEF) were told on Thursday. The annual Davos summit, which is being held by video link rather than in the plush Swiss ski resort, heard that despite the rollout of vaccines, the social impact of the health emergency was likely to be felt for several years.

The WEF Global Risks Report 2021, which was published alongside the summit, revealed how COVID-19 has exacerbated inequalities in health care, education and access to technology. The report warned that “job losses, a widening digital divide, disrupted social interactions, and abrupt shifts in markets could lead to dire consequences and lost opportunities for large parts of the global population.” The seismic shift in the world’s labor market, already underway due to technological advances, has been accelerated by several years in just a few short months, prompting Angel Gurria, secretary-general of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) to warn of the potential “scarring” effect of the pandemic on workers.

  1. Canopy Fields says:

They use environmentalism as an excuse to rob you and take away all your assets. "yeah you do support saving the climate right? Then give up your personal property". Only later you realise climate change has zero connection with your assets.

  2. Miia says:

So when is the next pandemic launched then? Ministers in Finland are already assuring that next pandemic is coming and legislation needs to be changed again. Maybe we can enjoy more severe restrictions to deny freedom? Blackmailing people to take vaccines has been profitable. Though I don't think a climate change will be a good backup story when next virus is released. Try to make some other excuse while hiding your "gain of function research" mishaps.

  3. what's next says:

We all need to block, shut down & protest DAVOS & World Economic meetings. These meetings are at the heart of what is destroying the world & our freedons as we know it. Boycott every psychopath CEO/company that attends. Do not give them your money, because our money provides them the power to take away our God given rights.
